Day 13 - Our Rally to Cali

Today started when we wanted to go to the pool. The pool in Vegas was so amazing we had to go in it one last time. While we were swimming Torey thought she saw Melissa Rycroft swimming and sunbathing at the same pool. Could it be? We went into investigative mode and swam by her several times. Mom - aka paparazzi Deb - even helped us by taking out her telephoto lens, perching behind a lounge chair and snapping a few shots. The`photos confirmed that we were swimming with a “star.” It was Melissa Rycroft. Then it was time to leave the wonderful sites of Las Vegas. Las Vegas is something I will never forget, especially the constant cling, cling, cling of the slot machines.

Our drive to San Diego was going to take 5 hours. It was pretty uneventful until we came upon an agricultural inspection stop. We quickly thought about what, if anything, was in our car that could cause us trouble. Luckily dad threw out the celery in Las Vegas. We answered all the questions with a convincing “no” and proceeded on to San Diego. It wasn’t until we passed through that we realized we still had carrots and an apple. Luck was on our side! The biggest change was the weather. Within three hours the weather went from 109 degrees to 79 degrees.

When we arrived in San Diego we went to the park to have dinner with my dad’s friend Steve “ coachie coach” O’Brien, his wife Maria, and their two kids Matthew and Christopher. Matthew and Christopher are two of the most polite kids you will ever meet. Erin enjoyed going on the playground because she had been waiting for a playground this whole trip. We scootered around a lot and had many scooter races. We also all played baseball. By 9:00 pm it was time to head to Coronado Island, where we were planning to stay for the next three nights. It was a quieter day compared to Las Vegas but it was time to get out of the fast lane.

Keep traveling with us,
Lea
