Day 17 – The cousins keep rolling in

We woke up and meandered downstairs. There were sleeping bodies stretched out everywhere. Monica has an open door policy, much like my Auntie Dee, and it was not long before Chris and the girls felt like family. I really enjoyed watching my girls engage in conversations that showed their individual personalities.

Before noon, cousin Chris rolled in with his children, Tierney and Connor. It was a beautiful day so we decided to spend the afternoon strolling around Balboa Island and enjoying some frozen bananas and Balboa bars. This Newport is just as spectacular as Newport, Rhode Island, where many of us wish to be on a sunny day. But to have my posse of cousins made it even more special to me.

We said our goodbyes and promised that it wouldn’t be another 30 years, and after all the embracing, I knew that we’d see each other again. We braced ourselves for a short drive to Santa Monica, where we planned to stay at the Le Merigot on Ocean Ave. for a little beach action.

We had a scrumptious dinner at Ivy by the Sea. During dinner, the girls decided that it was a perfect night for a camp out. We returned to the hotel, where we set up the roll away cot and a few blankets on the balcony and left the girls to fall asleep under the star and with the sound of waves lapping up on the sand. Only in California!! AHHHH…privacy at last!

Thanks for following along with us,

Debbi
